The Provincial Council of the Order of Friar Servants of Mary (Servites), the Board of Trustees and the Advisory Board of The National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother (The Grotto) have been working together in succession planning for the future of the national shrine in Portland, Oregon. Their collaboration has produced a plan that alters the organizational structure of The Grotto and sets the stage for a transition that will take place over the next six months.
The leadership structure of The Grotto has been redesigned, creating a new position of Rector and a redefined position of Executive Director. While Fr. Jack Topper continues to serve as Executive Director, an Executive Search Committee has been formed to identify candidates for the redefined position of Executive Director. The Servite Order remains committed to a vibrant future and continuing presence of friars at The Grotto.
The Executive Search Committee holds the privilege of this responsibility in sacred trust. We recognize that in any situation of change there is uneasiness that can manifest in a variety of ways. It is the intention of all individuals involved to work together to ensure the longevity of The Grotto, and to respect and honor all those who contribute to its success.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact The Grotto office, (503) 254-7371, and ask to be referred to a member of the Executive Search Committee. You will be contacted by a committee member who will address your concerns.
The Executive Search Committee gratefully acknowledges Servite Fr. Jack Topper for his many years of dedication and spiritual leadership at The Grotto. We request that you hold the best interest of The Grotto in your prayers for the success of our work.
