Special Projects

From time-to-time The Grotto embarks on special projects to enhance its grounds.  Below you will find several different projects currently underway to enhance the reflective space.  We hope you will support these important endeavors as we always aim to keep The Grotto as a place of solitude and peace.

Chapel of Mary Restoration/Renovation Project

The beautiful Chapel of Mary at The Grotto was built in 1955; after more than five decades of use, it is now showing the ravages of time, inside and out. On the interior, the original paint is flaking and showing water damage from prior roof leaks; the electrical system must be upgraded to modern standards, and the original frescoes on the walls need to be restored and preserved. On the exterior of the chapel, roof work is necessary, and the stonework requires repair and refurbishment: moss and mold need to be removed, and the stone and grout must be cleaned and resealed.

The Grotto hopes to restore and renovate the Chapel in the not-too-distant future. Your support of this project will extend the life of the chapel and make it safer and more inviting to all who gather here for prayer, consolation, comfort, and healing. God bless you for your generosity.

Dambana, Filipino Faith Shrine

The Dambana, the Filipino Faith Shrine, is the newest shrine on the upper level at The Grotto.  It is the third shrine to be installed and complements the Polish Shrine as well as the Lithuanian Shrine.  Please help support the up-keep of this beautiful shrine by donating to it today.

Gifts of Stock & Real Estate

Gifts of Stock and Real Estate

  • Income-tax benefits
  • No capital-gain tax

The Grotto makes use of outright gifts of stock for general operating purposes.  Many donors find this a great opportunity to make a generous annual gift.

We advise that all donors speak with a financial adviser and/or an attorney when thinking of making a planned gift.

Gifts of Life Insurance

Life Insurance
A wonderful way to include The Grotto in your estate is by naming The Grotto a beneficiary of an insurance policy.  Simply inform your insurance agent that you would like to make The Grotto a beneficiary or partial beneficiary of your insurance policy.  If you do so, please let us know so that we can properly recognize your generosity.

Advantages of life insurance gifts:

  • Privacy – the gift does not go through probate
  • Family is not deprived of other assets
  • Gifts are self-executing

We advise that all donors speak with a financial advisor and/or an attorney when thinking of making a planned gift.

Bequests

Bequests & The Grotto Bequest Society

The Grotto’s Bequest Society is a special thank you to donors who have made a commitment to the future of The Grotto.  Their deferred gift helps to ensure The Grotto is able to continue its ministries for years to come.

How it works
After you have made a deferred gift, by naming The Grotto in your estate, you will receive a Bequest Society certificate.  You will be remembered daily at Masses and at a special monthly Mass for Bequest Society members. You will be enrolled in The Grotto Guild of Masses and Prayer at the time of death. With your permission we will include your name on our membership roster, and we will invite you to special events.

Sample bequest language
Some donors find it helpful to have sample language to share with an attorney:

I give, devise, and bequest to _________________________, a nonprofit Oregon corporation, located at _________________________, the sum of $_____ (or, _______ percent of my estate, or, ___________ percent of the residue of my estate) to be used for such purposes as the Board of Trustees determines at the time this bequest becomes effective.

We advise that all donors speak with a financial advisor and/or an attorney when thinking of making a planned gift.

Bequests & Planned Giving

Bequest and Planned Gifts to The Grotto

Bequests and major gifts to The Grotto are important and valuable to ensure that existing ministries and the shrine itself will be present for years to come.
Gifts in your name or in the names of loved ones may be made during a person’s lifetime or after death.

The usual way to make a planned gift apart from an outright gift is to arrange for The Grotto to be included in a will, living trust, or other estate plan.  The
shrine can be named as a benefactor in the estate plan in different ways - for a percentage of the will, an outright amount, or the balance of available
funds after all other bequests have been made, etc.

Membership in The Grotto Bequest Society is available to those who have already made a will and have included The Grotto as a beneficiary.  Benefits
include remembrance in a special Mass for members every month while they are living, and perpetual membership in all Masses and prayers celebrated at the shrine after death.  An engraved plaque showing membership is given to all members.  You are invited to arrange for membership by applying to our Office of Gift Planning at P.O. Box 20008, Portland Or 97294-0008 or by e-mailing: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Other ways of making gifts in your memory are by paid up life insurance policies, stocks, real estate, retirement benefits, etc.  We will be most grateful to you for rembering The Grotto, and we will remember you in our Masses and prayers in the future.

Help secure the ministries and the beauty of The Grotto for generations to come.

Bequests. A gift in your will or trust is a thoughtful and easy way to support The Grotto. Your gift will show your support of The Grotto’s ministries and mission.

Bequest Society. Become a member of the Bequest Society. If you’ve already planned a legacy gift to The Grotto, please tell us about your gift by emailing our .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). As a Bequest Society member you will receive spiritual benefits as well as others.

Life insurance. A wonderful way to include The Grotto in your estate is by naming The Grotto a beneficiary of an insurance policy.

Gifts of Stock and Real Estate. These options offer income-tax benefits that have the potential to help you in your financial and tax planning.

We advise that all donors speak with a financial adviser and/or an attorney when thinking of making a planned gift.
