The Upper Level Gardens
The Upper Level Gardens at The Grotto are 110 feet above The Grotto’s Plaza. At the top of the north face of Rocky Butte, The Grotto has 62-acres of manicured gardens and walking paths. There are numerous chapels, statues, walking paths and reflective spaces on the upper level. The Upper Level Gardens are possibly the best kept secret in Portland as well as one of its largest green spaces.
As there are no walking paths to the upper gardens, to visit the upper level each visitor must purchase an elevator token. Tokens can be purchased at the Welcome Center or the Visitor Complex. Token prices are $5.00 for ages 13-54, ages 6-12 $3.00, and seniors 55 and over $4.00. Children under 6 are free.
The Grotto is fully accessible, and there are a limited number of wheelchairs available for use on a first-come, first-serve basis. The parking lot is located off Sandy Boulevard and NE 85th Avenue; there is ample parking with special stalls for tour buses.
